The “Summer Of Soul ” documentary highlights a monumental music festival that took place in New York City in 1969, which was a part of the Harlem Cultural festival (active between 1967 and 1974). It was the best-kept secret for over 50 years-the Woodstock of African American Music legends and kings and queens of soul, jazz, gospel, and everything in between. Acts included icons such as Stevie Wonder, Sly, and the Family Stone, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, The 5th Dimension, The Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & the Pips and so many more. It commenced in a period of six weeks with a combined attendance of nearly 300,000. Having such a large attendance with no incidents was a feat itself. There has never been a music festival like it since. The documentary is breathtaking and full of exuberant energy.
